ILA 2016 Biennial Conference, 7 – 11 August, Johannesburg: Regular Registration Deadline is 30 June

The 77th Biennial Conference of the International law Association (ILA) will take place from 8 – 11 August 2016 at the Sandton Convention Centre. This is only the second time in the almost 150 year existence of the ILA that a biennial conference is held in Africa.

The South African Branch of the International Law Association (SABILA) is hosting the conference and aims at using the opportunity to increase the African membership of the ILA. Thirty ILA committees and study groups will present their reports during the conference. These reports cover a wide range of topical issues in international law and contribute to the progressive development and codification of international law.

The attraction of the reporting sessions is that delegates to the conference have the opportunity to engage with top international law scholars coming from different regions of the world. Well-known South African participants include Prof Christof Heyns, the UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Killings, Judge Albie Sachs, Judge Navi Pillay and Judge Richard Goldstone.

REGISTRATION RATES ARE SET TO INCREASE ON JULY 1ST, SO REGISTER NOW TO AVOID THE INCREASE

In selecting key speakers for the 77th Biennial Conference of the International Law Association (ILA), the intention was to create an opportunity for academics and practitioners to reflect on developments in state practice that prove or disprove North – South divisions in the interpretation and application of international law in areas of mutual concern.
